Notes: Carolan was an itinerant harpist and composer. His music lies somewhere between folk and art music of the early 1700s. Carolan was very much influenced by the music of Corelli and Vivaldi. He became aware of these composers through Geminiani, a pupil of Corelli who resided in Dublin. Jamey Bellizzi has selected four compositions to form this suite and has added a contrapuntal bass line using Handel as a model. Carolan's music is full of vitality. One can only wonder what he might have composed, had he the music education of a contemporary like Henry Purcell.
